Guest post: ‘SheHeroes House Party’ by Holly Whelan

What a great evening I had this past Wednesday, hanging out with folks from SheHeroes! I was a newbie to the organization and wasn’t quite sure what it was all about when I accepted an invitation from my friend Katy Brown to come to her house to learn more.  Katy was the consummate host!  More than a dozen of us enjoyed pairings of Colorado produced beer and chocolate while chatting about SheHeroes (my personal favorite was the Chocolove Chilies and Cherries in Dark Chocolate paired with Bourbon Barrel Stout. YUM!).

We were also treated to a couple of great speakers, who shared their perspective on SheHeroes.  Board member Von Sheppard was inspirational as he talked about his involvement with and belief in the importance of SheHeroes to our youth.  We also heard from an actual SheHero, Dr. Tracie Kessee, of the Denver Police Department, whose very own SheHero interview will be coming soon!

All in all, it was an inspiring and motivational night for a very worthwhile cause.  I’m so glad I was invited (and not just because of the goodies…) and I look forward to seeing SheHeroes grow!
